From WindPRO: Power towers imported as control points

Introduction

Towers from OSM can be imported directly in windPRO. They can be of different types: antennas, masts, tall chimneys. The Electrical transmission towers can be imported with the option Power tower from OSM.

Import of existing towers in a WindPRO project is particularly useful as reference points for the calibration of a PHOTOMONTAGE. As tall elements in the landscape, they are indeed very often visible on photos.

Each tower is imported within a user defined radius around the position of the site center. The towers are inserted in windPRO as Control Point object. When available, meta data such as the height or the type of tower are included in the description of the object.

Usage Notes

  • Note that the control point is defined at the ground level of the tower.
  • In windPRO, OSM Towers are available through two datasets, each holding different subsets of landscape elements:
    • OSM Towers
    • OSM Power Towers
