Introduction

This pages holds the list of parameters available for datasets originating from the EMD-WRF On-Demand Services - either as a time-series product or as a custom-area run from a user-defined area.

How to Order?

To get pointwise-timeseries data, you need meso-credits (one credit is worth one month of data). Credits can be ordered here:

To get meso-data for your own user-defined area, please select the area within the 'ordering' section of windPROSPECTING, then we will send you a quote:

In order to access windPROSPECTING, use either windPRO (from the 'Data' drop-down-menu) or make a 'demo'-user. You are also very welcome to contact our sales department on email: sales@emd.dk.

Data Availability

All EMD-WRF On-Demand data-services are available with global spatial coverage. The temporal availability and update frequency depends on a number of factors such as availability from the boundary data providers, bandwidth and download times, as well as availability on EMD high-performance computing and storage systems. The table below on outlines the availability of the different data-services.

ERA5(T) and ERA5 as forcing data in the EMD-WRF OD model
During early December 2019, ECMWF released the ERA5(T) dataset. ERA5(T) is preliminary ERA5 data, but updated with a shorter five calender day delay. From summer 2022, ECMWF did make the ERA5(T) data available for the native, reduced Gaussian grid. This is a major improvement over the previous release schedule (before summer 2022), where the ERA5 Gaussian grid data came with a 2-3 month delay/lag due to ECMWF releases. A large quantity of useful parameters are available directly in WindPRO to aid in your analysis.
The different parameters in each On-Demand dataset is shown in the list below.

ERA5/ERA5T: Which is being developed through the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) with data processing and distribution for ERA5/ERA5T is carried out by ECMWF. 
ERA-Interim: Is being developed through the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). 
MERRA-2: The Global Modeling and Assimilation Office of NASA (GMAO) for the MERRA-analysis and the GES DISC for the dissemination of MERRA. 
CFS/CFSR: NOAA / National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP)

  1. It is still being investigated whether this inverse Monin-Obukhov-Length can be used for stability clasification.
  2. 2.0 2.1 CloudWater and cloudIcing values are extracted directly from the WRF meso-scale model and are normal output parameters of the same run as the other parameters (wind, temperature etc.). They are controlled by the WRF microphysics scheme for which Ferrier was used. For further information, please access the numerous internet resources about WRF use. EMD has not done any validation on the parameters, so they are provided as is.
