The mesoscale model is run at a spatial resolution of 0.029°x0.029°, approximately 3x3 km, and with hourly temporal resolution. ERA Interim data from ECMWF (http://www.ecmwf.int) is the global boundary data. The timespan of the data is back to 1994 and up until the latest available boundary data (see below for the Release Schedule).

Data Availability
Data is updated monthly with approximately 3 months delay defined by ERA Interim's availability. Before contacting support because of delays in the release schedule, please check ERA interim's availability on the ERA availability page. EMD-WRF Middle East data cannot be computed before ERA interim data is available.
+
All EMD-WRF On-Demand data-services are available with global spatial coverage. The temporal availability and update frequency depends on a number of factors such as availability from the boundary data providers, bandwidth and download times, as well as availability on EMD high-performance computing and storage systems. The table below on outlines the availability of the different data-services.

When downloading the most recent data, please note that the last day of the last month will be missing until the next month is added. This is because, in order to compute a full day of data, the 24:00h (or 0:00 of the following day) time stamp is required, but the last time stamp of a month in ERA interim data is 18:00 h.

ERA5(T) and ERA5 as forcing data in the EMD-WRF OD model<br>
The model-setup has been validated through various internal investigations on masts spatially distributed in the modelling area. <br>The findings (the correlations) are summarized in the datasheet available ().
+
During early December 2019, ECMWF released the ERA5(T) dataset. ERA5(T) is preliminary ERA5 data, but updated with a shorter five calender day delay. From summer 2022, ECMWF did make the ERA5(T) data available for the native, reduced Gaussian grid. This is a major improvement over the previous release schedule (before summer 2022), where the ERA5 Gaussian grid data came with a 2-3 month delay/lag due to ECMWF releases. Read more about ERA5 and ERA5T on our ERA5(T) Rectangular Grid dataset-page. The EMD-WRF OD services now uses both ERA5 (final) and ERA5(T) data, see more on the update schedule above.

In addition to the EMD-validations, the EMD-WRF modelling setup has been evaluated in a number of external benchmarks. <br> We have a separate EMD-WRF Benchmark Wiki-Page that holds links to those investigations.

Introduction

This pages holds the list of parameters available for datasets originating from the EMD-WRF On-Demand Services - either as a time-series product or as a custom-area run from a user-defined area.
You can find more information about the services at the following links:

 1. Time-Series - On-Demand - for 'virtual met-masts'
 2. Spatial Areas - On-Demand - for time-series within a larger domain and spatial climatic data

There is also a webinar describing the content of the different EMD-Mesoscale Services - it is accessible from the EMD-Youtube Channel:

How to Order?

To get pointwise-timeseries data, you need meso-credits (one credit is worth one month of data). Credits can be ordered here:

To get meso-data for your own user-defined area, please select the area within the 'ordering' section of windPROSPECTING, then we will send you a quote:

Note:
In order to access windPROSPECTING, use either windPRO (from the 'Data' drop-down-menu) or make a 'demo'-user. You are also very welcome to contact our sales department on email: sales@emd.dk.

Data Availability

All EMD-WRF On-Demand data-services are available with global spatial coverage. The temporal availability and update frequency depends on a number of factors such as availability from the boundary data providers, bandwidth and download times, as well as availability on EMD high-performance computing and storage systems. The table below on outlines the availability of the different data-services.

Dataset First date Most recent date
EMD-WRF OD (ERA5) - gaussian grid forcing data 1999.01.01 7-10 days from end of last month
EMD-WRF OD (ERA5T) - rectangular grid forcing data 2010.01.01 7-10 days from end of last month
EMD-WRF OD (CFSR/CFS) 1994.01.01 1-2 days from end of last month
EMD-WRF OD (ERA-Interim) 1979.01.01 2019.08.31
EMD-WRF OD (MERRA2) 1979.01.01 2019.08.31

ERA5(T) and ERA5 as forcing data in the EMD-WRF OD model
